Lil Miss Sissy and Thurman brought us their Christmas Eve litter of 2006 — six puppies born in our living room, right there with us on Christmas morning. This is their story from birth through their journey to new homes.
Note: Photo file size is quite small and grainy. Storage and speeds were both limited in 2006.
Day 6 — 31 December 2006
These photos were taken at 6 days. The puppies visited the vet two days earlier for a first checkup, tails, and dewclaws. This was the first evening that Sissy and family were together in the living room with us, instead of enjoying the privacy of the whelping box.
The Six
#1 is the firstborn puppy, a fawn female with black mask and a white streak down her face to the chest. She has white toes, as do most of the puppies.
#2 is dark enough to be called reverse brindle. He’s a male with a white streak on his face, extending to his belly, and white toes.
#3 is the puppy that most resembles her daddy, Thurman. She’s a brindle female with black mask, a touch of white on the face, white chest and belly. Her toes are white.
#4 is a little fawn male with a black mask and some white markings. He needed some supplemental feedings to get started, but he’s right in there looking for dinner when Sissy is feeding. Denise calls him her “Pocket Puppy”.
#5 is a whopping-big fawn female with a white streak beginning at the eyes and extending down over the chest. She tipped the scale at 1.75 pounds at 4 days, a quarter-pound more than the other puppies.
#6 is a dark brindle female. She has a white streak down her face, a white chest and belly, and four white socks. She has a full white collar and a distinctive white star at the back of her head.

2½ Weeks Old — 11 January 2007
Photos were taken 11 January 07, just after morning feeding by Sissy and bath by us. Everyone has eyes open, is becoming increasingly more mobile and demandingly vocal. We have just added a wooden shelf to their box for climbing and Puppy Pads are a new addition to aid toilet training. The puppies were out in the living room to play with grandson Jacob around noon and are currently with Sissy, getting another meal.
The Names
Laymani Bionda Una — #1 – I put my left leg out… I put my left leg in… Female Fawn with White Markings (most coordinated …today)
Laymani Bello Due — #2 – Busy doing pushups, on Hold. Male Reverse Brindle with White Markings (and a few black freckles on his nose) Moving to Pennsylvania!
Laymani Chiassosa Tre — #3 – A good day for a snooze. Female Brindle with Black Mask and White Markings (looks a lot like her Daddy)
Laymani Tasca Cucciolo — #4 – Our Pocket Puppy. Male Fawn with Black Mask and White Markings (the smallest and knows how to worm in for dinner) 13 Jan – Pocket Puppy was the first one on his feet and walking!
Laymani Bella Cinque — #5 – Bella Cinque, on Hold. Female Fawn with Black Mask and White Markings (biggest of the bunch) 13 Jan – My new Mom came to visit!
Laymani Bella Sei — #6 – Bella Sei, on Hold. Female Flashy Dark Brindle with Full Collar (white star behind her head) Her new owners had to choose by drawing from a hat. Maybe she should be called “Hatty”!
When #2 finished his workout, he decided to see how the other puppies measured up. Currently he’s pushing for #5’s record as the biggest of the bunch!

3 Weeks Old — 14 January 2007
In these photos of 14 Jan, Thurman and Sissy’s litter of puppies were just 3 weeks old. The whole crew was standing and beginning to walk, clambering onto their shelf and nearly tumbling out of their box when we forgot to close the gate. Grandson Jacob was over in the morning to play, and Denise spent some time introducing the puppies to a small crate. The day prior, #5’s new Mom was here for a nice, long visit.
Highlights
#1 – Laymani Bionda Una — Female Fawn with Black Mask and White Markings. #1 is the calmest puppy of the group. Her fawn color is nearly blonde and will be an excellent contrast with her black mask.
#3 – Laymani Chiassosa Tre — Female Brindle with Black Mask and White Markings. #3 looks very much like her father, Thurman. She is the largest of the three remaining puppies.
#4 – Laymani Tasca Cucciolo — Male Fawn with Black Mask and White Markings. #4 was so small at birth that we called him Pocket Puppy. He holds his own with the rest of the crew and was the first to get on all four legs and walk.

4 Weeks Old — 19–20 January 2007
Our puppies were 4 weeks old Saturday, 20 January. These photos were taken 19 January. Everyone was very vocal this morning, because Sissy decided to initiate crash-weaning. It seems that teeth and claws don’t appeal to her. The next couple of days were a big adjustment for the puppies, as they moved from puppy-chow-gruel to soft food.
Highlights
#3 – Laymani Chiassosa Tre (Noisy #3) — Female Brindle with Black Mask and White Markings. #3 looks very much like her father, Thurman. She is very tuned to people.
#4 – Laymani Tasca Cucciolo (Pocket Puppy) — Male Fawn with Black Mask and White Markings. 23 Jan… Pockets had a field day to the vet’s today. Sissy and Jazzy needed a checkup, so he went along for fun. Since he was there, our vet gave him a once-over…all good and he now weighs 4 pounds! #4 is our Pocket Puppy. He started out behind the others but is now ahead on walking and coordination.
